Today’s dynamic global security threats require solutions both big and small – solutions living within the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC). Boasting state-of-the-art design capabilities, multiple processing nodes, electrical testing, environmental and QCI screening, and failure analysis, the NGMC is a leader in designing, fabricating, packaging and delivering discriminating microelectronics to the military, aerospace, and commercial markets. One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking an Associate Test Systems Engineer / Test Systems Engineer to join our team and develop these technologies into high-performance computing systems. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside physicists, design engineers, and superconducting foundry engineers to make these technologies a reality.

Responsibilities:

  • Support test and test development activities for superconducting electronics development.

  • Develop automated testing procedures for the characterization and validation of fabrication methods in superconducting devices.

  • Communicate project status to the Test Support Lead.

  • Support the current and future development of test platforms within function, cost, and schedule constraints.

  • Document and implement test requirements and procedures.

  • Collaborate with research scientists and systems engineers to perform system architecture characterization studies on various system components.

  • Compile data and help to define changes required in testing methodology, equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, and new testing requirements.

This position requires full-time work onsite at our Linthicum, MD OR Annapolis Junction, MD location.

This position can be filled at the Associate Test Systems Engineer or Test Systems Engineer level.

Qualifications for each level:

Basic Qualifications for Associate Systems Test Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 6 months of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree in STEM, or a PhD in STEM.

  • U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Experience supporting the general upkeep of electrical test labs and systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to team members both verbally and in writing.

  • Familiarity in leading small teams.

Basic Qualifications for Systems Test Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM with 2 years of relevant experience, a Master’s Degree in STEM, or a PhD in STEM.

  • U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements.

  • Well-established troubleshooting and system integration experience.

  • Strong analytic skills and familiarity in performing statistical analysis.

  • Proficient in the use of at least one of the following programming languages: MATLAB, Python, C, or C++. Experience programming and automating test hardware.

  • Experience working with electrical instrumentation (source setters, network analyzers, etc.).

  • Experience leading projects with the ability to communicate effectively to team members both written and verbally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with poly security clearance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field specializing in RF microwave engineering, RF test engineering, and/or RF systems engineering with 2 years of experience, or 0 years of experience with a Master’s Degree.

  • Working knowledge of standard test equipment: network analyzers, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, synthesizers, digitizers, and/or signal analyzers.

  • Working knowledge of standard design components: filters, couplers, splitters, amplifiers, etc.

  • Familiarity with cryogenic test systems: dilution refrigeration, 4 Kelvin cryo-coolers, adiabatic demagnetization refrigeration (ADR) and liquid helium immersion.

Salary Range: $70,600 - $106,000

Salary Range 2: $85,400 - $128,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
