Purpose
Describe the primary goals, objectives, functions, or outputs of this position.
An engineering professional who applies engineering and scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete basic engineering assignments related to a specific technical field or discipline.
Responsibilities
List up to 10 main responsibilities for the job, including accountability and scope:
- Responsible for compliance with applicable regulations and standards for Quality; Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Global Policies; AbbVie Engineering Standards; and other governance areas as applicable. Identifies areas of risk with respect to compliance. Assists in development and revision of procedures and standards.
- Facilitates the definition of a project scope with stakeholders. Converts goals to tasks and steps. Plans own work, manages several, often concurrent, tasks to meet or exceed expectations (cost, quality, time). Participates in basic economic analysis and feasibility studies related to project alternatives under guidance. Shares responsibility for achieving the project’s financial targets in support of business objectives.
- Plans and conducts small-sized assigned projects within engineering specialty requiring conventional plans, investigations, and/or equipment. Implements plans; initiates execution of own work plan; monitors execution for adherence to plan, documents work status, and reports to management. Coordinates with technical support personnel for prototype or experimental runs.
- Assists in training personnel required for facility, process, and equipment operation. Establishes contacts with supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals.
- Remains aware of changing technical and competitive environments related to the business. Participates in or assists with design of products/processes/equipment/systems/facilities by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques. Investigates, tests, gathers data, performs preliminary analysis, reports findings, and communicates recommendations and action plans.
- Interprets problems and creates or modifies design solutions. Reviews existing layouts and standards and proposes improvements. Applies engineering principles to interpret, conclude, and recommend solutions, considering broad factors. Implements innovations and cost reductions.
- Builds relationships, initiates, and cultivates open, honest relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors. Establishes rapport, understands others’ needs, promotes goals, and follows through on commitments.
- Communicates effectively through verbal, written, and presentation skills to stakeholders and team members, both internal and external. Identifies ways to increase customer satisfaction. Documents agreements and keeps stakeholders informed throughout projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline, or equivalent technical experience with demonstrated competence.
- Entry-level position, with less than two years of experience typical.
- Quickly gains knowledge and understanding of AbbVie processes, policies, and methods. Good human relations skills for coordinating efforts across disciplines.
- Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong internal and external relationships.
- Listens and understands others’ points of view; articulates own perspective tactfully in speech, writing, and presentations.
- Works collaboratively in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment.
- Possesses interpersonal skills for negotiating and reconciling differences.
- Recognizes risks versus potential gains of actions.
