About The Role

The Associate Teacher assists the teachers and/or Center Director and assumes responsibility for general supervision, development and education of children at our Toyon Center which provides a unique Dual Language Immersion EHS program with an emphasis on Environmental Education programming. EHS is a federally funded school readiness and family support program for low-income and special needs children that promotes parents/guardians as the primary educator of the child.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • In this Dual Language Immersion center you will be a language model as assigned by program design. Language models will be using either Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin during their working hours at the center.
  • Develops and assists in planning, preparing and implementing lesson plans to execute current program goals in both indoor and outdoor environment curriculum.
  • Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Performs primary caregiving responsibilities.
  • Assists in the completion of the Desired Results process.
  • Assists in maintaining the environment in a clean, safe manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for regular parent communication, including parent conferences and chatters.
  • Supervises Teacher Aides, Substitute Teachers and Volunteers as requested.
  • Assumes responsibilities in absence of Teacher, or Center Director.
  • Assumes general responsibility for health, safety, and well-being of all children in the agency.
  • Prepares written reports as directed.
  • Greets children, parents, staff, and guests as needed.
  • Works as a member of the agency team by promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
  • Ensures personalized special services are provided to children with special needs (i.e., feeding, assistance with toileting, including diapering, specialized equipment and so forth).
  • Attends required classroom, center, and organization meetings.
  • Assists other centers when requested.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum Associate Teacher Permit or higher credential
  • 1 year prior experience in working with young children is preferred
  • Bi-literate in Spanish (required) and/or Mandarin, Vietnamese (preferred)
  • Immunization records that comply with Senate Bill 792 (immunity for measles, pertussis, and influenza)
  • Required CPR/First Aid Training Certification
  • 16 hours of health and safety training which includes 1 hour of nutrition training
  • Required to be a mandated abuse reporter
Compensation

$33.63—$33.63 USD

Additional Requirements
  • Must pass a health screening and TB test
  • Must pass background fingerprint clearance
  • Valid Driver License
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • The ability to lift up to 30lbs may be needed during some job duties
