Associate Teacher for Grace Village Child Care Center

The Associate Teacher for Grace Village Child Care Center plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the childcare program. Under the guidance of the Childcare Director, the Associate Teacher helps create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. This role involves assisting with classroom activities, supervising children, supporting routines and modeling positive Christ‑like manner.

The Associate Teacher works collaboratively with teaching staff to implement lesson plans, support children’s social‑emotional development and ensure a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment. Responsibilities include always maintaining safety, assisting with daily care routines, and adhering to all state licensing requirements and CityTeam policies. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children, values teamwork, demonstrates patience and flexibility, and approaches challenges with grace and humility.

The Associate Teacher is a full‑time non‑exempt position wrapped up in a Christian environment that values Teamwork, Accountability, Humility, Innovation, and Joy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Childcare Director in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  2. Assist with implementation of age‑appropriate activities and lesson plans that support children’s cognitive, social‑emotional, physical and spiritual development.
  3. Always supervise children to ensure safety, well‑being, and compliance with childcare licensing regulations.
  4. Assist with daily classroom routines including arrival, departure, meals, rest time, toileting and transitions.
  5. Model positive behavior, appropriate language, and Christ‑centered values in all interactions with children and families.
  6. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
  7. Communicate respectfully and effectively with other staff and families as directed.
  8. Observe and report children’s behavior, needs and progress to the Director.
  9. Follow all CityTeam policies, procedures and licensing requirements.
  10. Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
  • Minimum High School Diploma with 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education
  • At least two years of experience working, or volunteering, in a childcare program.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with proven ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good written communication skills, experience writing reports and or policies and computer literate with proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid CA Driver’s License with a clean record
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree in Education or related field
  • California Commission Teacher Credential Associate Teacher Permit
  • Bilingual language skills (English/Spanish/Vietnamese/Cambodian)
Work Conditions
  • This job operated primarily in a licensed childcare classroom and residential program setting.
  • The role involved frequent interaction with children and required active supervision, movement and engagement throughout the day.
  • Use of standard childcare and classroom equipment may occur as needed.
  • Work hours may vary based on classroom and program scheduling needs.
