Change Lives and Transform Communities – Join Our Eviction Defense Team! NLSLA provides free assistance to over 160,000 individuals and families annually, expanding access to justice. We value diversity and inclusivity, welcoming candidates from all backgrounds and abilities.

About The Role

Stay Housed L.A is a partnership to implement a county-wide right to counsel program, providing legal information, resources, and representation in eviction proceedings. The Associate Supervising Attorney oversees attorneys and paralegals, leading advocacy across multiple forums and practice areas.

You will report to the Supervising Attorney. This position is exempt.

What You’ll Do

  • Represent tenants in unlawful detainer litigation.
  • Supervise attorneys and support staff.
  • Oversee intake, case management, review substantive casework, accompany advocates in court, and support weekly housing clinics.
  • Prepare reports, project data, and staff evaluations.
  • Engage with community partners and participate in management meetings.
  • Join the NLSLA Leadership Team to ensure quality services.
  • Support and mentor staff development.
  • Travel within Los Angeles County may be required.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school and active California State Bar license.
  • At least three years of advocacy experience and leading legal projects.
  • Experience with unlawful detainer and housing law; jury trial experience preferred.
  • Strong typing skills and knowledge of MS Office, web-based case management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, support advocates, and deliver trauma-informed services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a passion for our mission.

Bonus Points if You

  • Are bilingual in Spanish.
  • Have prior experience in legal aid or public interest law.
