Job summary

Abbott is seeking an Associate Staff Software Engineer to design and evolve full stack cloud-native applications running on Microsoft Azure, for a mission-critical SaaS healthcare platform. You will implement microservices with Java 11+, Spring Boot, Angular front-end, and work in an Agile team to deliver secure, scalable software while mentoring engineers and shaping architecture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering, CS, or related field.
  • 6+ years backend development experience with full-stack ability and leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Java 11+, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs; GraphQL a plus.
  • Experience building cloud-native SaaS apps on Azure; familiarity with Azure PaaS services.
  • Frontend skills: Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML; NgRx state management.
  • Testing and tooling: JUnit, Jest; CI/CD pipelines; static analyzers; load testing tools.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and drive architectural decisions.
  • Experience with regulated medical software development is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement microservices using Java 11+, Spring Boot, and REST APIs; GraphQL a plus.
  • Build cloud-native SaaS apps following well-architected principles on Azure.
  • Work with Azure PaaS services: Service Bus, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, Redis, Identity Manager.
  • Develop responsive UI with Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML.
  • Implement NgRx state management and work with charting/grids (amCharts, AG-Grid).
  • Write unit tests with JUnit/Jest; apply static analysis; conduct load testing (JMeter, Lighthouse).
  • Ensure security, performance, and adherence to design patterns; mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) and drive architecture.

The Opportunity

The Associate Staff Software Engineer role focuses on building and evolving Full Stack cloud native applications running on Microsoft Azure. The platform is a mission critical SaaS healthcare system, designed for scale, security, and regulatory compliance

What You'll Work On
  • Design, and implement microservices using Java 11+, Spring Boot, and REST APIs (GraphQL is a plus).
  • Build cloud-native SaaS applications following well-architected principles on Azure Cloud.
  • Work with Azure PaaS services such as Service Bus, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, Redis Cache, and Identity Manager.
  • Build responsive and dynamic user interfaces using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
  • Implement state management using NgRx and work with charting/grid libraries (amCharts, AG-Grid).
  • Write unit tests using JUnit and Jest; apply static code analysis tools.
  • Conduct load testing using tools like JMeter and Lighthouse.
  • Ensure security, performance, and adherence to design patterns and best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive architectural decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban).
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in software engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 6+ years of backend development experience (full stack preferred) with proven ability to lead development in the following areas:
    • Java 11+, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST API development (GraphQL is a plus)
    • Database technologies (Postgres preferred)
    • Building cloud-native SaaS applications following well-architected principles (Azure Cloud preferred)
    • Experience with Azure PaaS services: Messaging/Service Bus, NoSQL DB/CosmosDB, Blob Storage, Redis Cache, Identity Manager
    • Knowledge of AI Agents in the software development life cycle is a plus.
    • Frontend Skills (Preferred): Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, State management (NgRx), functional programming, charting and grid libraries (amCharts, AG-Grid), Nx build system and developer productivity tools
    • Testing & Tools: Unit testing (JUnit, Jest), static code analyzers, load testing tools (JMeter, Lighthouse) – a plus, understanding of CI/CD pipelines – a plus
    • Technical Expertise
    • Strong knowledge of component-based architecture, security, performance optimization, design patterns, reusability, and standardization.
    • Experience with visual modeling/design, multi-threading, formal software development methodologies, and source code management.
    • Familiarity with regulated medical software development – a plus.
    • Hands-on experience with iterative development processes (Scrum, Kanban).
    • Proficiency in unit and integration-level testing and automated testing.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction across organizational levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10%.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
