Job summary

Abbott Laboratories is seeking a Software Engineer, Cloud to work remotely within the United States. You will design and implement cloud services in Go for a SaaS platform processing billions of messages daily, serving users in 25+ countries.

You will collaborate across teams, emphasize scalable, secure, and reliable systems, and contribute to architecture decisions while growing technical leadership within a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering Mathematics, or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional software development experience in an Agile environment, or 4+ years with a master's.
  • Strong CS fundamentals and software development experience.
  • Experience with Git for source control on a collaborative project.
  • Understands Object Oriented Programming and modular, testable code.
  • Understands asynchronous messaging and backend processing.
  • Familiar with Docker containers and orchestration such as Docker Swarm, ECS, and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cloud services using Go for SaaS platforms.
  • Develop and integrate with APIs enabling data sharing with partner systems.
  • Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable cloud-based solutions.
  • Participate in all SDLC phases for Cloud solutions with Software Engineering.
  • Align existing systems with current architectural goals.
  • Create diagrams/models illustrating solution components.

The Opportunity

This Software Engineer, Cloud position can work out remotely within the U.S.

The Software Engineer, Cloud will work with a modern technology stack on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, leveraging internal and external APIs to support a large-scale system that processes billions of messages daily and serves users in over 25 countries. This role plays a key part in advancing solutions that improve the health and well-being of users worldwide.

In this role, the Software Engineer, Cloud will contribute to the design and development of scalable, highly available, efficient, and secure cloud-based solutions for a medical device SaaS platform.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
  • Design and implement services and components utilizing Go for cloud-based platforms

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and integrate with APIs that empower users to share and utilize their medical data in partner systems

  • Design and implement high-quality, scalable, and maintainable systems by developing robust, testable code and ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and uptime

  • Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle for Cloud solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance collaboratively with Software Engineering

  • Implement systemic changes to align existing systems with current architectural goals

  • Create diagrams, flowcharts and models that illustrate the internal design and workflow of solution components

  • Build and manage internal tooling, APIs, and production systems, driving automation across build, release, and configuration processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

  • Support company initiatives and complies with regulatory requirements by FDA and other relevant global

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering Mathematics, or related field

  • Minimum 6 years of professional software development experience in an Agile environment, including time spent in technical residency programs, or master's degree with 4+ years of related experience.

  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals and experience with software development

  • Eagerness to contribute beyond experience level

  • Experience with Git for source control on a collaborative project

  • Understands Object Oriented Programming and design and building modular unit testable code

  • Understands the principles of designing, implementing, and maintaining highly complex asynchronous messaging and backend processing jobs

  • Understand s the concepts of Docker Containers and container orchestration services such as Docker Swarm, ECS, and Kubernetes.

  • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills

  • Experience working in an agile environment.

PREFFERED
  • Experience with open-source, software development and system engineering.

  • Comfortable working asynchronously with a distributed team

  • Practical Knowledge of Linux

  • Practical experience and understanding of working with and developing RESTful APIs and microservices

  • Experience contributing to a scalable architecture/design of existing and new systems that are highly available and easy to maintain and monitor

  • Understanding and familiarity of Test Driven Development (TDD)

  • Experience working with relational datastores such as SQL Server, Postgresql, or MySql
