Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks an Associate Attorney to represent the company and policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers’ compensation matters, primarily remote with appearances as required.

Under moderate supervision you will manage cases from inception through resolution, provide legal opinions to claims professionals, and collaborate with a remote team using e-discovery and case management tools.

Qualifications

  • JD or LLB from an accredited law school.
  • Bar admission in good standing; state bar required.
  • Knowledge of insurance, workers’ compensation or No Fault law is a plus.
  • Experience with e-discovery and case management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of civil litigation from discovery to resolution.
  • Provide strategic legal opinions to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
  • Coordinate with remote team members and use e-discovery tools.
  • Ensure documents and motions comply with applicable standards.
  • Support Senior Trial Counsel throughout trial preparation.

Under moderate supervision, you will manage cases from inception through resolution, applying your legal knowledge, research skills, and client relationship capabilities in a collaborative and supportive environment.Responsibilities:Litigation Execution: Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting legal documents such as pleadings and motions. Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel in all aspects of case handling through trial, including preparation, management, and assistance at every stage of the litigation process.Client Advisory and Relationship Management: Provide clear and reasoned legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients. Develop and maintain strong client relationships through transparent and effective communication.Technology Utilization: Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to streamline legal processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs. Demonstrate effective coordination with remote team members and proficiency in remote work settings.Risk Evaluation and Case Resolution Facilitation: Identify, evaluate, and collaborate on strategies to mitigate legal risks, working closely with clients and senior counsel to facilitate effective resolutions.Documentation Accuracy and Compliance: Ensure all legal documents, pleadings, and motions are meticulously prepared, accurate, and compliant with applicable standards and client expectations.Timely Client Communication: Provide clear, consistent, and timely updates and recommendations to insured clients and claims professionals to maintain alignment with case objectives.Contribution to Organizational Improvement: Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, effectiveness, and best practices within Staff Legal and Global Legal & Compliance organizations.Ethical Compliance Adherence: Uphold the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance, following legal regulations and licensing requirements and promoting a culture of integrity within the legal team.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.Admission to the bar in INSERT STATE REQUIRED and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required.General knowledge of insurance law, and as necessary, workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law.Proficient in e-discovery, case management systems, and basic legal analysis tools.Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.Basic knowledge of negotiation techniques including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision.Effective communication and persuasion skills, both written and oral.Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.About UsPay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location.
