Job summary

Bain Capital seeks an Associate for the North America Special Situations group in Boston (and New York). You will perform due diligence, market research, and financial modeling to inform investment decisions.

Build valuation models, assess buy/sell opportunities, and present concise investment views. Requires 2 years in investment management, strong academics, and excellent communication. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Strong academic credentials (BS/BA from highly-regarded institution).
• 2 years of experience with an investment management firm, consulting, or PE/VC firm.
• Experience analyzing and evaluating companies.
• Analytically driven with strong modeling capability.
• Ability to work collaboratively in teams and build relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present insights concisely.

Responsibilities

• Perform fundamental company-specific due diligence: visit management, conduct proprietary research, and analyze financial statements.
• Perform industry-level analyses, including market data research and conferences to inform the investment process.
• Build out company models, perform valuation analysis, and analyze returns sensitivities.
• Make proactive buy/sell recommendations and communicate views with the team.
• Learn and apply the firm’s investment process and prepare concise investment summaries supported by data.

Team members interact regularly with the Investment Committee and Portfolio Management teams to communicate and refine their recommendations, as well as collaborate extensively with their peers across the broader Bain Capital platform. We are currently hiring Associates for our North America Special Situations group in our Boston and New York offices.RESPONSIBILITIESPerform fundamental company-specific due diligence: visit company management, conduct proprietary research in the field (with customers, suppliers, etc.), and analyze financial statementsPerform industry-level analyses, including market data research, speaking to industry experts, and attending industry conferences to inform the investment process and provide critical contextBuild out company models, perform valuation analysis, and analyze returns sensitivitiesMake proactive buy/sell recommendations and effectively communicate your views with team membersLearn and adopt the firm’s straightforward investment process, characterized by direct verbal communication and concise written investment summaries supported by in-depth data-driven analysis (i.e., quantitative models of market size/growth, competitive positioning, and financial statements/analysis valuation)QUALIFICATIONSStrong academic credentials (BS/BA from highly-regarded institution) and a demonstrated track record of successful work experience2 years of experience with an investment management firm, management consulting, investment banking, or venture capital/private equity firmExperience analyzing and/or evaluating companiesA fundamental, analytically driven approach to investing with strong analytical/modeling capabilityAbility to work collaboratively in team environments and strong relationship-building skillsExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to synthesize complicated analyses concisely and to articulate insightful conclusions compellingly. In addition to a competitive base salary, this position may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based upon factors such as individual impact, team and firm performance.
