Job summary

ING Financial Services LLC is seeking a front-office Associate focusing on asset-based lending within the Transportation & Logistics sector. The successful candidate will support deal origination and execution, analyze borrower financials, and prepare internal credit materials.

This role requires a minimum of 3 years experience in lending or investment banking, strong financial analysis skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Competitive compensation includes a base salary ranging from $130,000 to $175,000 plus comprehensive benefits.

Job description

About the Position

This front‑office lending role is within ING’s Sector Based & Specialized Lending (SSL) platform. The Associate supports the origination and execution of lending transactions with a primary focus on Transportation & Logistics and works closely with a Vice President on the team.

The Associate builds expertise in asset‑based lending with an emphasis on Transportation & Logistics asset classes, including shipping, containers, rail, and aviation.

In addition to Transportation & Logistics, the Associate develops a secondary focus in at least one additional sector within the platform (e.g., Renewables & Power, Metals & Mining, TMT, Healthcare, Food & Agribusiness, Real Estate Finance, Asset‑Based Lending, Structured Export Finance).

Responsibilities
  • Support origination and execution efforts for Transport & Logistics lending transactions with a focus on asset‑based lending across shipping, containers, rail, and aviation.
  • Participate in initial deal screening, borrower/obligor analysis, and credit assessment under guidance of senior team members, incorporating asset quality, residual value, and market liquidity considerations.
  • Assist in due diligence processes, including analysis of borrower financials, business models, fleet/asset composition, utilization, counterparty profiles, and industry dynamics.
  • Prepare and contribute to internal credit approval materials, including transaction narratives, collateral descriptions, advance rate and covenant proposals, stress cases, and risk mitigants.
  • Build, review, and update financial models, including collateral and borrowing base analyses, valuation, asset‑level cash flow and depreciation assumptions, downside and recovery analyses, and internal risk rating tools.
  • Review financing documentation and support analysis of key commercial and collateral terms (security package, collateral eligibility, reporting requirements, covenants, events of default) in loan and related agreements.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as Risk, Legal, Loan Operations, Treasury, Finance, and with external parties (counsel, technical advisors, appraisers) to support transaction execution and closings.
  • Perform deal closing duties.
  • Stay current on internal policies, procedures, and risk frameworks to ensure transactions are executed in line with ING standards.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Associate level: 3+ years of relevant experience in lending, corporate finance, structured/asset‑based finance, project finance, or investment banking; Transport & Logistics sector exposure is a strong plus.
  • Core qualifications: demonstrated interest or experience with asset‑based and/or secured lending, including collateral analysis, documentation concepts, and recovery‑focused credit thinking.
  • Strong financial and credit analysis skills with a solid understanding of financial statements and cash‑flow‑based and secured lending fundamentals.
  • Financial modeling experience (Excel), including sensitivity analysis and scenario modeling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across sectors and teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Other: deal credentials including bank and individual role and responsibilities, case studies, references.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $130,000 - $175,000 (base salary only). The role is eligible for participation in a discretionary bonus program.
