Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Associate, Scoring Services for remote, part-time work in the United States. You will evaluate responses from New York teacher candidates, apply scoring standards, and participate in consensus scoring with colleagues.

Qualified applicants include teachers with current subject-area certification or educators with recent related experience, able to work remotely and attend training sessions. This role offers a starting rate and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• Current teaching certification in the subject area you are applying for and actively teaching or have taught recently.
• OR have been educators from colleges or universities who taught or advised a relevant field within the last three years.
• OR hold a degree in the content area and have worked in the field within the last three years.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate responses to test questions by New York teacher candidates.
• Internalize scoring standards and engage in consensus scoring with other scorers.
• Identify and discuss bias types and apply strategies to reduce bias in scoring.
• Meet quality and productivity requirements and pass a qualifying test before scoring.

Qualifications

• A current teaching certification in the subject area you are applying for AND are currently teaching or have taught in schools (public or private) within the last three years (including regular substitute)
• OR are or have been educators from colleges or universities who have taught or advised a content relevant field within the last three years
• OR hold a degree in the content area and have held professional employment in the content area within the last three years

Both active and recently retired practitioners can be eligible to score.

• Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse)

Overall Responsibilities

• Evaluate responses to test questions by New York teacher candidates
• Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
• Recognize and discuss various types of bias (e.g., implicit bias, cultural bias, leniency bias, central tendency bias, halo effect) and effect strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
• Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring

Working Conditions

Training takes place before scoring begins. There may be a brief orientation meeting before the day of scoring occurs.

Scoring sessions take place during the week Monday through Friday. Scoring sessions will occur on an intermittent basis, one day every 8 weeks. The scoring day runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training.
