Associate Scientist, Viral Vector & Discovery Platform (GBMB02-0163)
LOCATION:Waltham, MA

Position Summary:

TScan Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotech seeking to revolutionize life-changing therapeutics for patients by identifying novel T cells and epitopes. We are looking for an experienced researcher to join our team as an Associate Scientist in the Viral Vector & Discovery Platform team, supporting our novel target identification and validation workflow in-house. The ideal candidate should have relevant experience in lentivirus and retrovirus-based cell transduction and engineering, CRISPR-based gene editing, basic molecular biology skills, and enjoy a fast-paced, collaborative, and vibrant startup culture. A team player with a sense of urgency will thrive in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, plan, and execute small and large scale high-titer lentivirus packaging and purification tasks to support the company’s high-throughput discovery projects and target/TCR validation
  • Execute RNA and protein-based QC experiments to monitor and ensure the quality of lentivirus generated in-house
  • Lead group efforts towards technology improvement and development
  • Keep track of DNA vector usage for research use
  • Support DNA cloning and propagation efforts when necessary
  • Manage and develop Viral Vector & Discovery Platform team

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree with 5-7+ years OR Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • Prior experience in a research core lab a plus
  • Demonstrate expertise with lentivirus- and retrovirus-based cell transduction and engineering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document experiments in an organized and timely fashion and to present scientific data to coworkers
  • Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills
  • Experience with various CRISPR-based gene editing techniques
  • Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology, cloning, Western blot, ELISA, qPCR, luciferase assays, basic flow-cytometry
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a collaborative team environment and to quickly pivot and adapt with any changing priorities
  • Additional preferred skills include experience with transposon-based genome engineering, primary T cell culture and editing, advanced primary human cancer and normal cell culture model (organoid, spheroid) experience, and familiarity with high-throughput genetic screening and novel assay development
