Basic Function
Omya Technology Center at Cincinnati (OTCC) is seeking a talented, hardworking, inquisitive, and resourceful Associate Scientist with expertise in analytical techniques for inorganic and organic materials, glass microsphere production and characterization, glass and ceramic science, test validation and qualification (for internal and external customers), and data mining.

Additionally, the role involves providing technical support to sales and manufacturing teams to enhance product development and resolve manufacturing challenges, as well as providing laboratory leadership for technicians and associate scientists.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other company functions to identify key technical and marketing needs.
• Drive innovation using lean processes to create, select, and commercialize ideas efficiently.
• Lead laboratory projects employing design of experiments and the scientific method to address technical issues.
• Document findings in quality reports and share knowledge with team members.
• Train less experienced staff as needed.
• Conduct analyses to expedite testing and research on minerals like perlite and zeolite to enhance product knowledge.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, develop safe methods, and adapt techniques as needed.
• Assist technicians in completing tests and experiments promptly.
• Utilize literature and patent searches to support research.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or a related field; Master’s or MBA is a plus.
• 1-5 years of relevant technical experience, including application testing; experience with lightweight fillers is advantageous.
• Innovative, flexible, safety-conscious mindset with knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques relevant to product testing.
• Ability to understand products and applications to guide team efforts and support projects.
• Work in an ISO-certified environment.
• Must have current US employment authorization; sponsorship is not available.
