Seeking an experienced Associate Scientist II to support protein purification and chromatography process development within a Research organization. This is a 12-month contract opportunity supporting the development and characterization of vaccine antigens. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diverse chromatographic modalities, including IMAC, IEX, HIC, SEC, and hydroxyapatite, along with experience in protein purification, process development, and chromatography optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform IMAC, ion-exchange chromatography (IEX), hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), and hydroxyapatite (CHT/HA) techniques.
- Design chromatography trains using complementary modalities to reduce host cell proteins, endotoxin, aggregates, and other impurities.
- Support chromatography selection, screening, development, scale-up, and characterization activities.
- Utilize membrane chromatography for high-throughput contaminant removal, virus/VLP processing, and scale-friendly polishing or scavenging applications.
- Support multimodal chromatography optimization and process development activities.
- Apply Design of Experiments (DoE) approaches to chromatography development and optimization when applicable.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of experiments and project activities within an electronic laboratory notebook.
- Analyze experimental data and present findings to the Research team.
- Contribute to technical discussions and troubleshoot chromatography and purification challenges.
- Collaborate effectively with scientists and cross-functional team members to support research initiatives.
- Provide additional technical and experimental support as needed.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline with 2+ years of relevant industry experience; or Master's degree with 1+ year of relevant industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with multiple chromatography modalities beyond traditional monoclonal antibody/Protein A workflows.
- Strong experience with AKTA FPLC chromatography systems.
- Experience with IMAC, IEX, HIC, SEC, and/or hydroxyapatite chromatography.
- Experience working with diverse protein targets, including bacterial and e
