Job summary

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis seeks an Associate Scientist for the Kumar Laboratory to lead in vivo research workflows, coordinating experiments across germ-free, gnotobiotic, and conventional colonies. Independent execution spans molecular biology, anaerobic bacteriology, culturomics, and microbial genetics.

You will train and mentor junior staff, synthesize data for manuscripts and grants, and help maintain SOPs and biosafety protocols in a dynamic lab setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area.
• 7+ years of research experience is required.
• 5+ years of research experience is required with a Master’s degree.
• 2+ years of research experience is required with a PhD.

Responsibilities

• Lead in vivo research workflows across germ-free, gnotobiotic systems and conventional colonies.
• Independently design, perform, optimize and troubleshoot complex experiments in molecular biology, anaerobic bacteriology, culturomics, and microbial genetics.
• Coordinate day-to-day operations, vendor relations, equipment maintenance, and SOPs/biosafety updates.
• Process, organize, and analyze data; contribute to drafting manuscripts, grants, and progress reports.
• Provide technical training and mentorship to junior lab members and rotation students.
