Job Description

The Associate Scientist position is a laboratory-based scientific role within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment. The role involves supporting product formulation development and characterization focused on implantable and injectable pharmaceutical devices for controlled drug delivery, utilizing Secant Group’s biomaterial platform.

Responsibilities

1. Formulate and characterize drug-loaded polymer formulations for long-acting implantables, injectables, and oral gastroretention devices to support projects and investigations.
2. Conduct pre-formulation studies, such as drug particle size analysis, SEM, microscopy, milling, and sieving.
3. Analyze drug-polymer interactions and miscibility using DSC, TGA, rheometry.
4. Use FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to assess drug-polymer mixing, drug loading, and uniformity.
5. Set up and analyze dissolution and degradation studies, including drug release profiles via HPLC and polymer degradation behavior.
6. Perform wet chemistry experiments like Soxhlet extraction, Karl Fischer titrations, and titrations.
7. Collaborate with R&D team members to achieve project goals.

Qualifications

• BSc in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field with 0-2 years of experience.
• Knowledge of biodegradable polymers or polyurethanes.
• Exposure to controlled release drug delivery applications.
• Interest in developing formulation and characterization skills for drug-polymer dosage forms.
• Willingness to learn polymer processing techniques and test methods/equipment such as mechanical testing, DSC, TGA, FTIR, Raman, HPLC, Rheometry, SEM, microscopy, particle size analysis, titrations, and extractions.
