Synapse Energy Economics is seeking ambitious, articulate and creative researchers and analysts with exceptional quantitative and writing skills. The ideal candidate is eager to learn about Synapse’s wide range of expertise, and has a strong interest in analyzing large data sets to uncover key insights about the electric industry.

We are seeking applications for both an Associate position and an entry-level Research Associate position. Successful applicants will work with Synapse staff members on the following types of projects, depending on client needs and the applicant’s interests, skills, and experience:

  • Simulating electric power system operations to project prices and environmental impacts
  • Evaluating the cost-effectiveness of emissions control technologies and compliance scenarios
  • Quantifying economic and environmental impacts of proposed generation, transmission, alternative energy, and energy efficiency projects
  • Analyzing state, federal, and regional policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Applying models
  • Developing and supporting open-source tools
  • Clean Power Plan compliance planning
  • Electricity ratemaking to support public benefits
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, engineering, environmental science, public policy, or related field. Candidates for the Associate position should also have 3 to 5 years of experience, or a master’s degree in a similarly relevant field. We strongly prefer a focus on energy.

Strong to exceptional quantitative, communication, and analytical skills, including:

  • excellent writing skills.

While not required, computer programming skills, statistical analysis capabilities, and experience with data extraction tools are a plus.

A demonstrated commitment to public interest issues, such as sustainability, environmental justice, and consumer protection.

We Offer
