Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems – Propulsion Division is currently seeking an Associate Propulsion Engineer to join our Internal Insulation Design group in our Promontory, UT location.
Role Description & Responsibilities:
The Associate Propulsion Engineer is responsible for designing solid rocket motor internal insulators for a variety of government and commercial programs. This individual will use their engineering knowledge and insulation design processes to develop design solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
Job Duties:
Design and assess internal insulation systems that thermally protect solid fuel rocket propulsion systems and related components.
Provide accurate, on-time 3D models and specifications for next generation internal insulation designs.
Participate in engineering teams associated with the design, test, and production of rocket motor internal insulators.
Interact with development teams (including specialists in Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Structural, Materials, and Test) to certify design solutions that meet all requirements.
Engage with multi-discipline teams to improve internal insulation design processes and tools.
Develop and present documentation for project-related briefings, including design reviews.
Perform problem solving/anomaly resolution and conduct special studies.
Collect and evaluate post-fire insulation performance data from full-scale rocket motor tests.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum Experience: BS classical engineering degree.
Willingness to learn: Chemical basics of rubber and polymer insulations and adhesives.
Ability to travel: Travel expectation of 0% – 5%.
Experience Preferred:
Previous internal insulation design, fabrication, inspection experience, rocket motor design, or aerospace design experience.
NX modeling and drawing experience.
Understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes.
Previous experience at Northrop Grumman.
Skills & Qualifications:
Broad understanding of engineering design, material behaviors, processing, fluid flow, and heat transfer.
Skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&T.
Great written and oral communication skills.
Great time management and organizational skills.
Detail-oriented but able to understand the big picture.
Salary Range: $75,300 - $112,900
