The SCHOOL OF KINESIOLOGY provides comprehensive educational programs related to understanding the impact physical activity has on health, society, and quality of life for the general population as well as children, older adults, athletes, and people with disabilities, injuries, or disease. The COLLEGE OF HEALTH is a vital resource for Indiana for preparing health professionals, the College of Health is moving boldly forward in making interprofessional education, practice and research its paradigm across its disciplines. The College offers 32 academic programs in 7 units: Departments of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, and Counseling; Military Science; Nutrition and Health Science; Speech Pathology and Audiology; and Social Work plus the Schools of Nursing and Kinesiology. We are proud to be the academic home for the campus ROTC program, which commissions about 20 officers annually from Ball State and affiliated programs at nearby universities. Our 200 faculty and staff serve nearly 3,000 students. We partner with communities for immersive learning. Our Interprofessional Community Clinics and the Healthy Lifestyle Center offer health services and health education by faculty-supervised students. These clinics operate as an auxiliary to the college, providing an unusual opportunity for students to learn the business of health care.
Faculty and students contribute to the evidence base for their respective disciplines. Our research is community engaged and features the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Human Performance Lab and the Center for Substance Use Research and Community Initiatives. Description
Ball State University seeks a tenure-line Professor or Associate Professor to serve as the next leader of ourClinical Exercise Physiology Program. Housed within Ball State's historic Human Performance Laboratory in the School of Kinesiology, this program was one of the first clinically based academic programs in the country and continues to operate the nation's longest running community-based physical fitness program. This program is also responsible for numerous important scholarly contributions that have advanced understanding of exercise, health, and disease, including serving as the foundational laboratory for the FRIEND Registry, and the database for the BALLST cohort. Ball State's College of Health provides unique opportunities for inter-professional education and collaborative research partnerships are available in our School of Nursing, Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Nutrition & Health Science, among others.

We provide top tier experiential learning opportunities for future clinical exercise professionals, and deliver exercise testing and programming services to the surrounding communities. The program holds long-standing relationships with local hospital and other health care providers, offering applied educational and research opportunities for students and faculty.


The successful applicant will be an experienced scholar, educator, and administrator, who possesses the vision and skills needed to build on this program's momentum, and lead it into the next phase of its history. This individual will lead all aspects of the Clinical Exercise Physiology master's degree program, the Clinical Exercise Physiology Exercise Testing Laboratory, and Adult Physical Fitness Program. The candidate will engage in scholarly activities in their area(s) of expertise, and actively participate in University and professional service activities. Generous support will be provided in the form of graduate assistants, research space, and a start-up funding package.


The position will begin August 15, 2025, includes generous salary commensurate with experience, a full benefits package, and opportunities for summer employment.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology or closely related field from an accredited institution;

  • Eligible to be considered for tenure in Ball State's School of Kinesiology;

  • At least 8 months (two semesters) of higher education teaching experience, either gained concurrently or at any time;

  • Ability to teach courses in Clinical Exercise Physiology and Exercise Science;

  • Evidence of publishing scientific work in areas related to Exercise Physiology or Clinical Exercise Science, and presenting this work at scientific conferences;

  • Ability to supervise exercise testing and clinical exercise programs.
