Simmons University School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position (non-tenure track) in Practicum Education as Associate Professor of Practice and Onground MSW Practicum Education Specialist. This position requires the candidate to be located on the Simmons campus in Boston. Responsibilities will be primarily in the on-ground platform of the MSW program. This position will start on or around July 1, 2025.

Simmons University is a small, highly collegial and dynamic university located in the heart of Boston’s world-renowned Longwood Medical Area. Simmons is comprised of an undergraduate liberal arts education program for women and those who identify as women plus professional graduate schools with master's and doctoral programs for all genders, presenting unique and rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The Simmons School of Social Work offers degrees at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels (BSW, MSW, DSW, PhD). Our MSW Program is offered via robust on-ground and online platforms. Areas of current SSW faculty expertise include: dynamics of diversity, family and intimate partner violence, immigration, health and health policy, health disparities, aging, behavioral health, substance abuse, suicidality, child maltreatment, social policy, and innovations in social work education.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the on-ground campus-based department structures, operations, procedures, and goals.
  • Advise MSW candidates and serve as practicum liaison to ensure a strong learning
  • relationship for students, supervisors, and agencies.
  • Advise students through the practicum placement process to ensure students of all years are matched in appropriate settings, and support students through any emergency replacements.
  • Gain a broad understanding of the practicum operations through active engagement with respective faculty and staff.
  • Assist practicum faculty in increasing the number of placements in the Boston area, and serve as lead contact for any assigned placement sites.
  • Maintain up-to-date records pertaining to agency sites, practicum supervisors, and student-agency matches.
  • Participate in weekly practicum department meetings.
  • Support the facilitation of monthly liaison meetings.
  • Contribute to MSW program committees and projects.
  • Co-facilitate practicum supervisor and student orientations.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Engage in one-to-one student instruction with MSW students enrolled in field practicum to advise, mentor, and education related to the practicum learning experience and mastery of field competencies.
  • Teach Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI)

Service Responsibilities

  • Serve on SSW and University committees as needed and required, to represent the MSW Practicum Department.
  • Participate in student recruitment and/or admissions events and activities as needed and required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited CSWE program, with a minimum of 5 years post-MSW professional experience
  • Highest level of licensure required (LICSW in Massachusetts or the equivalent in other States)
  • Knowledge of a broad range of social service agencies in the Metro Boston area
  • Experience as a practicum instructor for MSW interns is required
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred
  • High Level of organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a high-volume, adaptable environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and experience connecting with outside partner organizations
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and a solid understanding of adapting technology in an educational context; willingness to learn new tools and software.
  • Proven experience working across systems; ability to mediate when interests are competing
