The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine to deliver high-quality oncologic emergency care and advanced teaching within a clinical and academic framework. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This is a faculty position reports to the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine who reports to the Head of the Division of Internal Medicine.
The Associate Professor will be working for the Emergency Center and must possess strong communication skills to communicate with patients, providers, and other faculty members within the Institution. Provides clinical expertise in patient care management and provides an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents and students in the specialty of Emergency Medicine. The Associate Professor must have outstanding analytical skills in order to make judgments regarding the patient's medical problems and advise the patient on methods to improve their care. Likewise, the Associate Professor must manage patients and their families in a compassionate and positive manner. The Associate Professor will involve a significant amount of clinical time delivering emergency medicine care to cancer patients. Additional responsibilities may include a portion of protected time to pursue clinical research studies as well as academic work related to teaching residents, mentoring oncologic emergency medicine fellows and publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings, which may include walking to each meeting site.
Actively engage in clinical research and/or scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment of the Department.
The Associate Professor must have completed the M.D. degree in an accredited medical school or equivalent, must have completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent, have made application and been accepted by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and be licensed as a physician in the State of Texas. Must be board certified in Emergency Medicine.
Five (5) years of experience as Assistant Professor OR equivalent OR ten (10) years post clinical degree.
