Job summary

Plymouth Rock Assurance in New Jersey seeks a Nonstandard Associate Product Manager to lead ideation and development of pricing, telematics, and underwriting rules for our personal lines in the Direct division, with focus on Nonstandard business.

You will analyze complex issues, recommend data-driven plans, mentor team members, manage high‑complexity projects, and coordinate with marketing, underwriting, finance, IT and external vendors to deliver profitable growth.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • 5+ years in product management, actuarial, or analytical role.
  • 5+ years experience with relational database tools.
  • ≥3 years in a non-standard or broad market auto insurance environment.
  • Ability to use quantitative approaches to generate sound business analyses.
  • Experience owning challenging business issues and data-driven decisions.
  • Insurance industry experience required.
  • Strong communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Advance Nonstandard business across the Direct division, identify opportunities in pricing, product offering and telematics, and develop product changes to enhance them.
  • Support the business to achieve budgeted growth and profitability results.
  • Manage high-complexity projects using data systems to identify, test, and solve strategic issues and present findings to upper management.
  • Interface with Data Science and State Management teams to interpret quantitative concepts for business use.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to achieve goals cost-effectively.
  • Develop hypotheses independently and seek new ideas to address business issues.
  • Challenge current processes to obtain the best outcome.
  • Coordinate with marketing, customer service, underwriting, finance, and IT to address needs.
  • Understand regulatory environments across regions to identify threats and plan responses.
  • Mentor team members on project work and general business knowledge.
  • Represent the product in cross-department meetings.

Job description

The Nonstandard Associate Product Manager leads the ideation and development of products and features with goals of improving pricing, competitive position and ease of doing business for Plymouth Rock’s personal lines products sold in the assigned market(s) for the Direct division, with particular focus on Nonstandard business. This person is responsible for creating and developing favorable business outcomes through the analysis of complex issues, and for providing recommendations for the implementation of new rating plans, improvements in the telematics program, new underwriting rules, process improvements, and other initiatives to support profitable growth and improve competitive position of Nonstandard business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the advancing the Nonstandard business sold in the Direct division across all regions, including identifying opportunity areas in our pricing, product offering and telematics program and developing product changes to enhance them.
  • Support the business to achieve budgeted growth and profitability business results.
  • Effectively manage projects of high complexity using available tools and data systems to identify, test and solve strategic business issues within the company data/reports, troubleshoot when there are inconsistencies and present findings to upper management.
  • Understand predictive modeling and other quantitative concepts and serve as a liaison between the Data Science and State Management teams; being a resource in interpreting these concepts for business application.
  • Collaborate with third party vendors to achieve company goals more effectively and cost efficiently.
  • Seek out new ideas and approaches to business issues and develop hypotheses independently.
  • Constructively challenge current processes and proposed solutions to obtain the best outcome.
  • Interface with other departments to strategically address their needs as they relate to the product.
  • Review documentation, interpret rules, and coordinate activities with marketing, customer service, underwriting, finance, and information technology.
  • Understand the competitive, legislative, and regulatory environments in all regions to identify emerging threats to our objectives and recommend plans for responding.
  • Serve as a mentor to other team members on aspects of project work, insurance and general business knowledge.
  • Serve as a Product representative in meetings with other departments as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • 5 or more years in product management, actuarial, or other analytical role.
  • 5 or more years of experience with relational database tools and concepts.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a non-standard or broad market auto insurance environment is required.
  • Ability to utilize quantitative approaches to generate sound business analyses with detail orientation. Identify results out of the norm, draw conclusions and articulate findings.
  • Confidence in taking ownership of challenging business issues, making decisions with limited or incomplete data and seeing issues through to resolution.
  • Experience developing and implementing new, creative and effective solutions to highly complex business issues.
  • Understanding of and experience within the insurance industry is required.
  • Skilled in linking multiple data sources into a logical format for analysis.
  • Experience managing relationships with upper management and with technical developers.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • MS-SQL (or related software) skill preferred.

SALARY RANGE

The pay range for this position is $110,000 to $152,500 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
