This position requires a true crime-obsessed storyteller to pitch, produce, and edit engaging, social-first content that keeps audiences hooked. You'll livestream major trials, press conferences, and breaking news, dive deep into case research using public records and databases, and turn raw footage into compelling narratives. This role is perfect for a digital-savvy creator with strong video editing skills, a sharp eye for trends, and a passion for crime reporting. Travel may be required for content gathering, breaking news coverage, and professional development.

  • Produce, edit and repurpose digital content including raw footage to align with Criminally Obsessed’s brand.
  • Understand and use public records, databases (PACER, FOIA), and media sources outside Sinclair (CNN, AP, Getty) for research; assist other producers.
  • Assist with livestream for breaking crime events, including press conferences and trials.
  • Stay ahead of true crime trends by consuming relevant media (documentaries, series, books, social content).
  • Keep operations running smoothly by organizing data, managing content calendars, and ordering equipment.
  • This role requires occasional travel, approximately 10-20%, to attend conferences, training, or on-site content coverage
  • Physical Requirement: Must be able to safely lift, carry, and maneuver equipment/gear weighing up to 25 pounds, following proper safety protocols.

Daily Expectations

  • Review web stories and video from assigned markets by 10am
  • Send a minimum of 3 story pitches by email identifying the bucket and assets prior to CSS
  • Know key details about story pitches
  • Create a minimum of 1 piece of in-feed content daily; due by assigned time
  • Assigned schedule is 8:30am to 5:30pm with an hour break, but could flex due to work demands

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in writing/producing/editing social-first content (newsroom/media experience a plus).
  • A highly curious mindset with the ability to spot and leverage social media trends.
  • Experience with social media analytics tools (Including Sprout and Google Analytics).
  • Adaptability to evolving team structures, workflows, and industry trends. Strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a team-first mindset.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Impeccable spelling, grammar, and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects).
  • Strong understanding of AP Style and the urgency of breaking news.
