Job summary

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. in San Diego is seeking a daily production contributor for FOX 5/KUSI-branded news.

You will help produce and write for newscasts, support line producers, and ensure accuracy and quality in presentation. This role involves creating and updating graphics, researching stories across sources, planning segments, posting links, maintaining social media, and possible basic video editing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field is desired.
• 1-2 years’ experience in a working newsroom as writer or production assistant.
• Ability to work under extreme pressure and meet deadlines.
• Solid news judgment and accuracy in writing.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Role

Daily production of a quality news product as defined by the FOX 5/KUSI brands. Accuracy and excellence in production techniques and writing.

Responsibilities

• Write and support line producers for assigned newscasts. Fill-in produce as needed.
• Manage and create graphics for assigned stories and update them as needed.
• Research, confirm, and update local, state, national and international stories through multiple sources including websites, FOX & Nexstar services, wires, and social media.
• Help determine placement of stories in the newscast and advise producer on story format changes.
• Help plan future segments, topics, guests, and story ideas.
• Post links to the Fox 5/KUSI website.
• Assist assignment desk in making calls to confirm story details.
• Maintain social media presence.
• Additional duties including basic video editing as necessary.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field is desired.
• 1-2 years’ experience in a working newsroom either as a writer or production assistant.
