Job description

SGH is seeking a Principal‑level leader to participate in the growth and development of its Fire Engineering Division within the Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) Group in the Washington DC office.

The Fire Engineering Division is expanding the reach of its current technical strengths to grow in new practice areas. The Principal will develop business and deliver projects through client relationships, strategic marketing, project management, and technical expertise. They will market, organize, coordinate, and execute project assignments of various sizes while leading, supporting, mentoring, and training staff. The role will involve collaboration with other SGH practice areas and contribute to professional committees and technical publications.

SGH’s Fire Engineering Division works collectively across all locations to deliver projects nationally and has access to a national team of experts and advanced in‑house laboratory and computing capability.

Requirements

• Preferred Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Doctorate in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
• 15+ years of professional experience in fire protection engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience with leading‑edge work and leading projects requiring creativity in finding and communicating solutions outside the standard.
• Excellent track record of recognized technical excellence and market leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong client relationships and a substantial revenue base.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a commitment to developing high‑level talent.
• Participation in professional society activities and publishing papers.
• Experience as an accomplished public speaker.
• Commitment to SGH’s standards of ethics and honesty.

Compensation

Base salary is part of SGH's industry‑leading Total Compensation package. The compensation range is $214,240 — $262,080 USD for Associate Principal or Principal. The actual salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
