The Salvation Army seeks an Associate Planned Giving Director to grow its West Virginia program, focusing on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding planned gifts to support our mission. The ideal candidate will carry a minimum of three years in fundraising, excel at building relationships, and work effectively from a home office with limited supervision.

Qualifications

• Three years' fundraising experience including planned giving.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Ability to build relationships with individual clients.
• Ability to work from home with minimal supervision.
• Experience managing a donor portfolio or prospects.
• Excellent oral and written communication, including public presentations.

Responsibilities

• Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with donors and their professional advisors.
• Responds to inquiries and communicates with donors, prospects, advisory board members, Salvation Army staff and Officers.
• Conducts personal visits after identifying prospects, counsels on planned giving vehicles, and assists with estate planning decisions.
• Educates advisory boards and presents planned giving success stories and strategies.
• Attends meetings, conferences, and training, staying updated on planned giving practices and related tax considerations.
• Travels within West Virginia and Cumberland, MD region.
• Ideal candidate resides in the Parkersburg or Charleston area.

About this opportunity:

This position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, securing, documenting, and stewarding planned gifts, such as wills, charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, beneficiary designations and other gift strategies to fund the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with donors and their professional advisors.
• Responds to inquiries and communicates with donors, prospects, advisory board members, Salvation Army staff and Officers.
• Conducts personal visits after identifying prospects, consults with individuals about specific planned giving vehicles and assists them in their charitable estate planning to help them decide on the most appropriate planned gift for their personal circumstances.
• Educates advisory boards and presents planned giving success stories and strategies.
• Attends and participates in meetings, conferences and training sessions, maintains up-to-date knowledge and awareness of planned giving practices and legislation in relation to planned giving and taxation.
• Travels often within the following region of West Virginia (sans Martinsburg in the panhandle) and Cumberland, MD.
• Ideal candidate resides in the Parkersburg or Charleston area

You are an ideal match for the role if you have:

• Three years' experience achieving results in the fundraising field; planned giving, major gifts, development, capital campaigns or related (financial advisor, outside territorial sales, etc.).
• Bachelor's degree (preferred but not required).
• Demonstrated ability and experience building strong relationships with individual clients.
• Demonstrated self-starter, and ability to work with minimal supervision from a personal home office.
• Experience actively developing, cultivating, stewarding, and managing a portfolio of donors (or prospects).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public presentations.
