Job summary

UF Health in Saint Augustine, FL seeks a Patient Care Technician (PRN, 0.1 FTE) to assist patients with daily living activities, bedside care, and basic nursing procedures under RN supervision. The role may include phlebotomy duties as appropriate.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting measurements, helping with meals and hygiene, assisting with admissions and transfers, supporting treatments, ensuring safety, and restocking supplies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Hands-on patient care experience or 2nd-semester RN student.
• CNA, EMT, or CMA certification within 1 year of hire.
• Preferred: current CNA, EMT, or CMA license.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document vital signs and weight; reports abnormal results to the nurse and documents in the electronic medical record.
• Provides personal care including bathing, dressing, dietary needs, and toileting.
• Documents patient intake/output, sends urine specimens to the lab, performs phlebotomy, collects and labels tubes, and performs bedside glucose monitoring.
• Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients and updates the hospital tracking system.
• Assists the nurse and/or physician with treatment interventions, including sterile and non-sterile soaks and/or dressings.
• Provides for patient safety through preventative measures.
• Obtains and restocks supplies and equipment as needed and ensures supplies are properly charged to the patients.

Shift: Variable
The Patient Care Tech assists patients with healthcare needs, activities of daily living and provides bedside care, including basic nursing procedures, all under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). In this role, the Patient Care Technician may also function as a phlebotomist by performing blood collection by venipuncture or dermal puncture, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents vital signs and weight; reports abnormal results to the nurse and documents in the electronic medical record.
• Provides personal care including bathing, dressing, dietary needs, and toileting.
• Documents patient intake/output, sends urine specimens to the lab, performs phlebotomy, collects and labels tubes, and performs bedside glucose monitoring.
• Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients and updates the hospital tracking system.
