THE ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATE PASTOR will be to assist the Lead Pastor to fulfill the mission of connecting people to the heart of Jesus so they can experience new life in Him by providing oversite leadership to the primary discipleship ministries of the church. His focus will be to disciple and train up followers of Jesus of all ages who will actively serve in roles aligned with their giftedness and who will also personally engage in disciple-making for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God. He will also partner with the Lead Pastor to provide pastoral care for the NLAC family and provide preaching and teaching as needed.
The Associate Pastor will report to the Lead Pastor and is accountable to the Governing Board.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Spiritual:
- Is a born-again believer through faith in Jesus Christ, having made a personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ
- Lives consistently with and in commitment to the requirements of an Elder as set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
- Demonstrates a vital and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, is a person of prayer and the Word, and is a model of a Biblical pattern of life and leadership; demonstrates a love for God and His people.
- Shows evidence of control by the Holy Spirit in all aspects of personal life and in the ministry of New Life Alliance Church.
- Agreement with the doctrinal statement of the Christian & Missionary Alliance.
- Alignment with NLAC’s mission, vision, and values.
Personal:
- Exhibits the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
- Is well-ordered and disciplined in his spiritual, personal, and family life, maintaining a fresh and vital personal prayer and devotional life as the basis for ministry.
- Exhibits warmth, friendliness, empathy, and sincerity, possessing a cooperative, outgoing, and friendly nature.
- Is a person of strong character and integrity in all personal and ministry affairs.
- Possess self-initiative to accomplish what needs to be done in the respective ministry areas assigned to in a timely manner.
- Is committed to local outreach, national and international missions.
Professional:
- A ministry degree (Theology, Biblical Studies, or Pastoral Ministry), appropriate educational or practical experience.
- Ability to become licensed and ordained in the Christian & Missionary Alliance.
- A minimum of 5 years church ministry experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversite leadership of the children’s ministry director, student ministry leader(s), men’s and women’s ministry leaders.
- Provide healthy leadership to direct reports and lay leaders responsible for; establish an approachable environment, performance evaluations, role clarity, development/training, self-evaluation, goal setting/ministry plans, recognition.
- Be the primary leader for the life group ministry of NLAC.
- Participate in teaching and leading a life group.
- Teach and lead NLAC Starting Point Guest Reception and the NLAC Next Steps Membership Class as needed.
- Work with the Lead Pastor in sermon series planning and prep.
- Preach a minimum of 8-10 times a year or as needed.
- Actively involved in helping people take their next step in the NLAC discipleship process.
- Helping to assimilate people into the life and ministry of NLAC.
- Disciple and recruit potential leaders for various ministries.
- Provide pastoral care through visitation and counseling.
- Being present and involved in key ministry events of the church: monthly prayer, men’s breakfast, etc.
- Help to plan and implement local and global outreach opportunities.
- Worship service involvement: opening the service, announcements, prayer, and communion. If the candidate is gifted in singing or playing an instrument, they would be encouraged to be involved in the worship ministry.
- Assist the Lead Pastor in preparing the annual budget.
- Develop and implement an on-going evaluation process for ministry effectiveness.
- Submit a monthly ministry report to the Governing Board.
- Prepare and submit a bi-annual strategic ministry plan.
- Work alongside other NLAC staff members and volunteers, providing mutual support towards the harmonious functioning of all NLAC ministries to the glory of God.
- Work in cooperation with the children’s ministry director and student ministry leaders to assimilate children and students into the life of the NLAC congregation as active participants in the church family. This includes conversion, baptism, ministry involvement, and leadership development.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend scheduled staff meetings.
- 1:1 meetings with the Lead Pastor.
- Take on other responsibilities as needed.
- Funerals/Weddings.
- Other items as deemed necessary by Lead Pastor, Governing Board, and Elders.
- Take part in all “All Hands On Deck” events that may be planned during the year.
