Major Responsibilities

1. Operate a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, tractors, loaders, mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, and chain saws.
2. Assist with tracking projects, work orders, and documenting work.
3. Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure proper operation.
4. Participate in projects such as inventory management, construction, demolition, planting, pruning, and concrete work.
5. Maintain landscapes and grounds, clean and repair park areas, playgrounds, and facilities, ensuring compliance with agency rules.
6. Supervise assigned personnel and inspect work to ensure timely and quality completion.
7. Respond to citywide efforts and emergencies, including snowstorms and storm damage cleanup.
8. Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and vehicles.
9. Keep accurate records, track assignments, and manage supplies.

Qualification Requirements

This vacancy is only open to current permanent Parks employees in the Associate Park Service Worker civil service title, on leave from it, or on the promotional list (Exam Nos. 1517 or 1138).

Minimum Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of full-time experience in gardening, grounds, tree maintenance, or trades; or
• One year of full-time experience in similar trades.

License Requirement

Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License in New York State. Maintaining this license is required.

Preferred Skills

• Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License, towing, passenger endorsements, experience working with diverse teams, excellent communication and organization skills, ability to work in inclement weather, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to work weekends and evenings.
