About the Role:

As an Associate or Senior Editor at Nature Communications, you will handle manuscripts in Human Genetics and/or Molecular Biology. If you love science and enjoy exploring papers outside your specialty, this role is for you!

This position can be based in our New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Milan, Madrid, or London offices, with a hybrid working model. It is a full-time, permanent role.

Role responsibilities:

  1. Handling original research papers and collaborating with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review.
  2. Making well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice.
  3. Determining the representation of their subject area in the journal.
  4. Liaising extensively with editors in the Nature family and with international scientific experts.
  5. Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in human genetics or molecular biology, or an interest in population genetics, genomics, chromatin biology, computational biology, or epigenetics.
  • Thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
  • A passion for science and a broad interest in research beyond your specialty.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of research across disciplines.
  • A critical mindset and quick thinking.
  • Willingness to travel and engage with scientists worldwide.

Desirable:

  • Postdoctoral research experience (preferred but not essential).
  • Editorial experience (not required but advantageous; candidates may be considered for Senior Editor roles).
