About the Role

As an Associate or Senior Editor at Nature Communications, you will handle manuscripts related to Human Genetics and/or Molecular Biology. If you love science and enjoy exploring research outside your specialty, this role is ideal!

This position is based in our New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Milan, Madrid, or London offices, with a hybrid working model. It is a full-time, permanent role.

Role responsibilities:

  1. Handling original research papers, collaborating with other editors throughout the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review oversight.
  2. Making well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice.
  3. Determining the representation of their subject in the journal.
  4. Liaising extensively with editors at other journals within the Nature family and with international scientific experts.
  5. Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in human genetics or molecular biology, or an interest in population genetics, genomics, chromatin biology, computational biology, or epigenetics.
  • Thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
  • A passion for science, with broad interest beyond your specialty.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of research across disciplines.
  • Critical thinking skills and adaptability.
  • Willingness to travel, meet scientists worldwide, and engage with the scientific community.

Desirable:

  • Postdoctoral research experience (preferred but not essential).
  • Editorial experience is not required but will be considered, especially for potential Senior Editor roles.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $80,000 / Senior Editor: $95,000. Salary may vary based on experience and qualifications.
