Job summary

Invenergy is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate in Regulatory Affairs to support the Director of Regulatory Affairs-ERCOT. The role involves representing Invenergy before regulators, TSOs/ISOs and trade associations for generation, transmission, and storage projects.

Based in Denver or Portland with a hybrid schedule (in-office Mon–Thu, remote Fri). You'll collaborate across internal teams and with external consultants, developing and monitoring market rules and providing regular updates

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in one of the listed fields with at least 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Travel required, approximately 20–25%.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs team in the Western region and ERCOT; liaise with development, asset management, legal, transmission, interconnection functions.
  • Engage with external consultants and lobby external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Develop, advocate, implement, and monitor market rules for generation, transmission and storage projects.
  • Assist in data collection for market registrations and participation in energy and capacity markets.
  • Prepare internal written and oral updates for business groups and deliver regulatory briefings.

Job Description
Position Overview

The Associate or Senior Associate, Regulatory Affairs will report to the Director of Regulatory Affairs-ERCOT. They will support the regulatory team in representing Invenergy before state and federal economic regulators, transmission service providers, regional transmission organizations/independent system operators, and state and regional trade associations on behalf of Invenergy's operating assets as well as its pipeline of development projects. This individual will assist senior regulatory staff in the development, advocacy, implementation and monitoring of market rules as they apply to the construction, interconnection, and operation of generation, transmission and battery storage projects.

The position will be based out of Invenergy’s Denver or Portland office. Invenergy follows a hybrid schedule, working in office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs team members in the Western region, ERCOT, and across regions, as well as other internal departments such as development, asset management, legal, transmission, interconnection and origination functions.
  • Engage with external consultants.
  • Build relationships with and lobby external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Potential to engage with state agencies (PUC, etc) in the West and Texas building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Assist in development, advocacy and implementation efforts on policy changes that will further the competitive position of the company.
  • Assist in data collection for market registration, project participation in energy and capacity markets.
  • Collaborate with peer companies on issue-focused topics.
  • Monitor and/or participate in relevant federal, state and RTO/ISO meetings and hearings and trade association meetings.
  • Assist in the provision of real-time, weekly, and quarterly updates to internal business groups.
  • Develop and deliver written and/or oral internal presentations on relevant regulatory updates.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets for trade organizations, consultants, etc.
  • Minimum Qualifications: BS or BA in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Law, Political Science, Finance, or Environmental Policy 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Travel Required, approximately 20-25%.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills, able to manage competing priorities and projects
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree such as a Master’s in Economics, Engineering, Environmental Policy, or a law degree.
  • Knowledge of organized power markets.
  • Knowledge of FERC and NERC standards related to transmission and interconnections, including Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT).
  • Base knowledge of electricity market and auction rules (day ahead, real time, capacity, ancillary services, etc.).
Base Pay

$93,000.00 - 113,000.00 USD Annual

Bonus: 20% - 30%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
