KPMG LLP seeks an Associate or Senior Associate for Fixed Assets / Cost Segregation (AMCS) to join our Accounting Methods and Credit Services practice. You will support cost segregation and fixed asset analyses for real estate and renewable energy projects, analyze data, and prepare depreciation reports.

You will conduct site visits, liaise with clients, and contribute to process improvements, including automation tools, while upholding professional standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of experience in engineering, corporate, or public accounting; cost segregation/asset work preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related discipline is required.
  • Understanding of construction processes and building systems, and how costs translate to asset classifications.
  • Basic knowledge of federal income tax depreciation principles and accounting for capital expenditures; willingness to learn more.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, construction documents, or large project cost datasets.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups) and data wrangling/automation tools like Power Query/Alteryx; familiarity with BI tools (Power BI/Tableau) or scripting (SQL/Python/R).

  • Maintain professional integrity and a respectful work environment.
  • Senior Associate: lead portions of engagements and review junior colleagues' work.

Job description

KPMG is currently seeking an Associate or Senior Associate, Fixed Assets / Cost Segregation (AMCS) to join our Accounting Methods and Credit Services practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Support and perform cost segregation and fixed asset analyses for construction projects, real estate acquisitions, and renewable energy and sustainability initiatives
  • Analyze construction cost data, general ledger detail, architectural/engineering drawings, and capitalization support to determine asset classification and identify costs eligible for tax treatment
  • Conduct site visits and assist with fieldwork to evaluate building components (such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems) and validate cost assumptions
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to gather technical documentation and support the completeness and accuracy of analyses
  • Prepare engineering-based reports, depreciation analyses, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for client deliverables, including participation in tax fixed asset outsourcing engagements (Fed, State, E&P)
  • Identify potential opportunities related to sales tax exemptions (such as utility reviews) and contribute to process enhancements and data-driven workflow improvements, including the use of automation tools and standardized methodologies
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG’s respectful and courteous work environment
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Associate:
  • Lead discrete portions of engagements and take increased ownership of analyses, client interactions, and deliverables, including reviewing work performed by junior team members
Qualifications:
  • Minimum one year of recent experience in an engineering firm, corporation, or public accounting firm; background in cost segregation, fixed asset consulting, construction, engineering, or a related technical field is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a closely related discipline is required
  • Understanding of construction processes and building systems, and how project costs translate into asset classifications
  • Basic knowledge of federal income tax depreciation principles and accounting for capital expenditures, or a demonstrated interest in developing this skillset
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, construction documentation, or large project cost datasets
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (such as advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups) and experience working with structured data from financial or operational systems; demonstrated experience or strong aptitude with data wrangling/automation tools (such as, Power Query, Alteryx), business intelligence tools (such as Power BI, Tableau), or query/scripting languages (such as SQL, Python, R)
