Los Angeles, California

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the "Trojan Family," which is comprised of the faculty, students and staff that make the university what it is.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) seek to recruit an internationally recognized physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine.

CHLA's Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine has been a pioneer for five decades in providing expert, specialized care for children with common and complex pulmonary and sleep disorders. CHLA is currently ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. and #1 on the West Coast on the esteemed U.S. News & World Report Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll for 2023-2024, and the Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine is ranked # 11.

The Division Chief reports to Alan S. Wayne, MD, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of USC and works closely with the other Division Chiefs. The position includes an academic appointment with KSOM at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience. Applicants are required to have an MD or comparable degree as well as outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research. They must also be board-certified in Pediatrics with subspecialty certifications in Pediatric Pulmonology and preferably Sleep Medicine.

The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the division, lead recruitment efforts, and ensure career mentoring for division faculty and fellows. The Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine is currently comprised of 13 faculty, 7 fellows, and 75 staff members including nurses, dietitians, technicians, social workers, and administrative personnel. The Division treats children with a wide range of complex pulmonary and sleep disorders, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS), aerodigestive disorders, infant chronic lung disease, respiratory failure, interstitial lung disease, pneumonia and other conditions from infancy through adolescence and young adulthood. The program also diagnoses and treats the full spectrum of sleep disorders in our American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)-certified Sleep Center. The Division is at the forefront of regional, national and international research efforts to bring about healthier lives for children, including membership in the Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Collaborative and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Therapeutics Development Network (TDN) as well as active participation in the international Aerodigestive Society. The Division was one of 6 nationwide to receive a $1.5 million grant from the U.S Health Resources and Services Administration, which enabled our team to develop a leadership program for pediatric pulmonology health care professionals, including fellows, nurses and respiratory care practitioners.

The annual base salary range for this position is $309,457-$339,179. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Strong administrative, clinical, research, and financial support will be provided, including staff, infrastructure, endowments, and institutional resources. CHLA and USC are equal-opportunity, affirmative-action employers committed to building a vibrant and culturally diverse community of faculty that best reflects the patients and families we serve. Individuals from underrepresented groups in medicine are especially encouraged to apply.
