The University of Houston Law Center (Law Center) invitesapplications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor position inh1L criminal law and 1L legislation and regulation; various upperlevel including especially family law, evidence, PR, andemployment/labor law to begin Fall 2027 term. The successfulcandidate may also be eligible for a chair or professorshipdepending on experience and qualifications.
Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or theequivalent) and should demonstrate success as a scholar andteacher, along with a record of commitment to service indicatingsuccess as a future member of the community of the University ofHouston Law Center (UHLC) and the University of Houston (UH) morebroadly. Rank at the time of appointment will be made based onacademic and scholarly record.
This position requires teaching coverage in 1L doctrinal courses,upper-level required courses, or bar topic courses. Candidates fromacross all doctrinal areas of law will be considered, but we havethe greatest need in traditional first-year subjects, mostcritically in (1) criminal law, and (2) legislation and regulation(a 1L course called Statutory Interpretation and Regulation). Themost critical needs in upper-level courses are these: family law;labor and employment; PR; and evidence. Other upper-level topics ofspecial interest are these: administrative law; bankruptcy;copyright; disability & the law; employment discrimination;energy law; health law; international law; and wills & trusts.Willingness to teach anywhere in the core UHLC curriculum,including other 1L courses or other courses covered on the barexam, is also a positive factor.
