Job summary

Alexander Twilight Academy seeks an Assistant/Associate Director of High School Placement to lead and scale our ambitious program. You will partner with the Executive Director, Director of High School Placement, and Director of Operations to guide rising students through the high school placement journey.

The role demands strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to educational equity, with travel across New England and some weekend work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education or Counseling preferred.
• 3–5 years of professional experience in schools, nonprofits, or public sector preferred.
• Experience with independent high schools and/or admissions is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead engaging and informative high school placement classes.
• Prepare students for success in the high school application process with interview prep and materials support.
• Ensure timely completion of administrative tasks related to independent school applications (interviews, financial aid forms).
• Support logistics for high school placement events (visits to high schools, SSAT administration).
• Collect and securely track all application materials and placement data.
• Represent ATA at independent school fairs and meetings with high school partners.
• Support additional projects to help a fast-paced, growing organization.

Named after the first Black American to graduate from college in the United States, Alexander Twilight Academy (ATA) is a free, longitudinal catalyst and high school and college access organization that provides hard-working, high-potential students from under-resourced backgrounds with the highest-quality educational and life-enriching opportunities. Through rigorous, year-round academic programming, support, advocacy, enrichment, and mentorship, ATA prepares middle school students to earn admission to and thrive at the nation's top high schools, colleges, and beyond. ATA develops leaders who will change the world and catalyzes the next generation of great thinkers, creators, and changemakers to live meaningful lives of passion and purpose.

Piloted during the summers of 2018 and 2019 and launched, in earnest, during the 2019-2020 school year. ATA has grown by adding a new cohort of rising 6th grade students each year. ATA now serves seven cohorts of students in grades 6-12. Alexander Twilight Academy has placed 100% of its students into the Boston Exam Schools and prestigious independent day and boarding schools with a cumulative total of over $52M of financial aid and is at a dynamic inflection point because our oldest cohort, who will be entering their senior year this fall, will be the first cohort from ATA to apply to college!

It is an incredibly exciting time to join our team, as ATA is continuing to grow and scale the size of each new rising 6th grade cohort we admit, while fully building out the high school and college aspects of the model with robust programming, support systems, career exploration, internship training and placement, and college guidance.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an Assistant or Associate Director of High School Placement to lead an innovative, scaling, mission-driven organization. The Assistant or Associate Director of High School Placement will be instrumental to building upon the groundwork for Alexander Twilight Academy’s rising 8th grade class and will serve as a critical decision maker and thought partner to the Executive Director, Director of High School Placement, and Director of Operations. The role will support in managing all aspects of high school placement and ideally will make a multi-year commitment to ATA. The Assistant or Associate Director of High School Placement will report to the Director of High School Placement and Executive Director.

• You have worked in a school setting and ideally have experience or interests in admissions work.
• You have familiarity with the landscape of independent schools in New England and/or Boston Public Schools.
• You are steeped in process, are highly organized, and have a strong attention to detail.
• You are receptive to feedback and unafraid to take proactive steps to make improvements and/or solve problems.
• You are a successful multi-tasker and thrive when managing concurrent projects under tight deadlines.
• You are an excellent communicator and can confidently build relationships with students, families, and external partners from diverse backgrounds.

About the Role

As the Assistant or Associate Director of High School Placement you will be responsible for the following scope of work:

• Lead engaging and informative high school placement classes.
• Prepare students for success in the high school application process via interview prep and support with application materials.
• Help to ensure accurate and timely completion of administrative tasks related to independent school applications, such as interview scheduling and supporting financial aid forms.
• Support logistics for ATA high school placement events, including visits to high schools and SSAT exam administration.
• Collect and securely track all application materials and high school placement data.
• Serve as an ambassador for ATA by attending independent school fairs and meeting with high school partners.
• Support with additional projects as needed to support a fast-paced, growing organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s in Education or Counseling preferred.
• At least 3-5 years of professional experience in schools, nonprofits and/or the public sector is preferred.
• Experience with independent high schools and/or admissions is a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and/or Portuguese is preferred.
• Experience with high school or college counseling is a plus.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule - some Saturday and evening work is required September-June.
• Ability to drive/travel to various high schools, primarily located in New England.

The Details

This is a full-time role with expectations and benefits commensurate with all full-time roles at ATA.

• Location : Our team works together in our Jamaica Plain office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with optional remote days on Wednesdays and Fridays; During the 6-week Summer Leadership Program we are in-person every day.
• Benefits : We offer a strong benefit package including healthcare, dental, vision, and a 401K option.
• Compensation : Salary for this position starts at $75,000 and can flex up commensurate with experience.
