Job summary

Madewell is seeking an Associate Merchant to help manage seasonal assortments and partner with production, marketing, design, allocation, and planning teams. You’ll drive category strategy and oversee cross-functional communications to optimize sales and margin.

As a key member of the merchandising team, you will build Omni assortments, analyze trends, and support inventory, pricing, and promotional decisions across channels.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ merchandising experience.
• Strong analytical and business skills.
• Excellent presentation abilities.
• Proficiency with Excel and BI tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build an on-trend Omni assortment with channel-specific strategies.
• Conduct market/competitor analysis and monitor industry trends.
• Manage merchandising systems and information flow.
• Communicate changes to cross-functional partners including planning and design.
• Participate in store visits and prepare omni selling recaps.
• Collaborate in pre-season planning to align department buys.
• Engage in inventory management with planning and distribution.
• Contribute to pricing and markdown strategies to protect gross margin.
• Review receipts against business trends to maximize sales.

The Role + Purpose:

An Associate Merchant is responsible for helping to manage the execution of seasonal assortments, acting as point person for cross-functional business partners in production, marketing, design, allocation, and planning. They help to drive strategy for the categories they are managing.

• Build an on-trend Omni assortment with channel-specific strategies in mind
• Initiate market/competitor analysis and always be on top of industry trends
• Manage merchandising systems and information management
• Communicate changes to all cross-functional partners - planning, production, design and wholesale
• Participate in store visits
• Prepare and analyze Omni selling recaps to drive your business. Make recommendations on how to optimize current sales and affect future plans
• Partner with planning in pre-season to plan and buy your department based on comprehensive analysis of the business – last year results, current business, etc
• Participate in inventory management and control with planning and distribution teams
• Participate with pricing and profit strategies – make promotional and markdown suggestions to drive profitable gross margin results
• Review new receipts against business trend to maximize sales and stock
• Manage one of our most SKU-intensive assortments, with heavy PO and system maintenance.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years’ Merchandising experience
• Proficient in Excel
• Experience with a reporting or business analysis system (e.g., Power BI) is a plus
• Demonstrated analytical and business skills
• Strong presentation skills

Salary Range: $64,200.00 - $79,600.00
