Job summary

Inova Center for Personalized Health seeks an Associate Medical Physicist for a full-time role, Monday–Friday, with a sign-on bonus. The position involves collaboration with physicians, QA, and regulatory compliance across Inova systems, including radiation therapy and imaging modalities.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in Physical Science and be eligible for ABR certification, with licensure potential as a VA state inspector in the specialty.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Physical Science or equivalent.
• Eligibility to pursue American Board of Radiology certification.
• Licensure to VA State inspector in the subject specialty is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains contacts with physicists in other practices; confers with physicians regarding patient dosages and QA.
• Adheres to state and federal regulatory rules and recommendations.
• Interacts with vendors about equipment specifications, acceptance, and regulations (linear accelerators, MRI, CT).
• Discusses radiation exposure with patients and the public about medical procedures.
• Provides Medical Physics coverage for subspecialties (e.g., Radiation Therapy, Cardiac Cath).
• Stays informed on clinical and dosimetric literature in the subspecialty.
• Attends hospital committees (e.g., Radiation Safety).
• Maintains relationships with Department Directors and other physicists.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develops and maintains contacts with physicists in other practices. Confers with physicians throughout Inova systems regarding patient dosages, regarding equipment evaluation and quality assurance.
• Cooperates and adhere to regulatory agencies (state and federal) in demonstrating compliance with applicable rules and recommendations.
• Confers with vendors or equipment used in practice (i.e. linear accelerators, MRI, CT etc.) concerning purchase specifications, acceptance rules and regulations.
• Discusses with patients and other members of the public radiation exposure with medical procedures.
• Confers with physicians in subspecialties in all patient uses in ionizing radiation.
• Provides Medical Physics coverage as deemed appropriate to the sub specialty (i.e.. Radiation Therapy, Cardiac Cath.).
• Intercompares data with other radiation therapy institutions; Stays abreast of clinical and dosimetric literature in sub specialty.
• Attends any hospital assigned committees (i.e. Radiation Safety Committee).
• Maintains professional working relationship with the pertinent Department Directors and the Medical Directors; Develops and maintains contacts with physicists in other practices.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

• Certification - With time in work, experience, is eligible to take the American Board of Radiology certification.
• Licensure - Applicant is eligible to submit to become a VA State inspector in the subject specialty.
