The Sustainment Engineer Associate supports aircraft maintenance, modification, and repair activities by assisting in the evaluation of discrepant conditions, interpreting technical data, and developing basic engineering solutions under guidance from more experienced engineers. This entry‑level role applies fundamental mechanical or aerospace engineering principles to aircraft systems, structures, and installations within production, maintenance, and repair environments.

The Sustainment Engineer Associate works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Design Engineering, and Program teams to help maintain production flow, support aircraft sustainment activities, and ensure structural and functional integrity of delivered products. The role supports the transition from engineering design to manufacturing and installation, assists with troubleshooting production and maintenance issues, and contributes to engineering documentation and technical communication. Sustainment Engineering Associates receive mentorship and direction while gradually developing decision‑making capability, technical proficiency, and cross‑functional coordination skills.

Essential Functions:
  • Apply critical thinking, proactive learning, and engineering problem‑solving skills to evaluate nonconforming conditions and determine appropriate engineering dispositions.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, models, tolerances, and technical documentation to support MRB decision‑making.
  • Communicate effectively across engineering and production teams using strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Support off‑shift or overtime work as required to meet program schedules and aircraft delivery commitments.
  • Navigate and work within aircraft hangars, flight lines, and manufacturing facilities; must be able to board and exit aircraft, including maneuvering in restricted areas such as wings, fuselage compartments, and fuel tanks using appropriate safety gear.
Qualifications:
  • To be eligible, applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM discipline or have completed their Bachelor’s degree within the last 12 months, regardless of age.
