Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineering in Carlsbad, CA. The role focuses on designing, developing, and qualifying mechanical systems within a multidisciplinary team, with emphasis on 3D CAD design, analysis, and test integration.

Responsibilities include producing drawings and specs to meet military requirements, performing structural/thermal analyses, and coordinating with manufacturing and quality teams. Travel up to 30 days/year may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Graduate degree or equivalent with 0–2 years of related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, at least 6 years of related experience.

  • Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems.
  • Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems.
  • Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other design reviews.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and quality engineering to ensure hardware is producible and inspectable.
  • Adhere to company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, etc.
  • Travel (typically less than 30 days per year).

Position Overview:

We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer Senior Associate to design, develop, and qualify mechanical systems within a collaborative team environment.

Your day-to-day work will center on 3D modeling, hardware deisgn documentation, analysis, integration and testing, while operating within a multidisciplinary team.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the development, integration, and operational support of modules and electronics for the Aerospace and/or Defense industries

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Experience in the design, development, and/or production of mechanical systems for the Aerospace and/or Defense industries.
  • Experience with analysis
  • Understanding of GD&T and ASME Y14.5
  • Experience with CAD tools and PLM systems.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and access to U.S. Government/customer facilities.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $76,000 - $141,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
