Job summary

ABB in the United States is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to support engineering activities under supervision. You will contribute to surveys, analyses, and basic design tasks while learning industry standards and best practices on a diverse set of projects.

Expect to work onsite, collaborate with senior engineers, and develop skills in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Creo/SolidWorks, SAP, and Windchill.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 0–2 years of experience for entry-level role.
  • Experience with low complexity orders and basic mechanical design.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD (latest version) or equivalent.
  • Experience with 3D design (Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent).
  • Familiar with MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, SAP, Windchill.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles and fundamentals.
  • Strong interpersonal, self-motivated, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

This position reports to: Engineering Manager

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support engineering activities in all types of project sizes and complexities, under the supervision of senior engineers. Each day, you will complete the tasks cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards. You will also showcase your expertise by collecting data and supporting production of the engineering design.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

This role is contributing to the Electrification Distribution Solutions Division in the US.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Performing survey work, standard computations, analysis, and basic design tasks.

  • Exercising judgment on limited details of work and on application of standard methods and preparing project documentation within your scope of deliverables.

  • Assisting customers on technical issues and interacting with official contacts, contractors, and other staff within your scope of deliverables.

  • Supporting in communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.

  • Participating in workshops related to engineering design, tools, and processes.

Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field

  • Entry level position for 4-year engineering degree holders with 0-2 years of experience

  • Experience with low complexity orders and mechanical designs

  • Proficient with AutoCAD (recent version) or equivalent computer-aided design platform

  • Experience with 3D design including use of Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent design platforms

  • Familiar with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, SAP, Windchill, and

  • other applicable software

  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated with a high level of creativity

  • Complex problem-solving skills

  • Independent thinking and decision-making abilities

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Authorized to legally work in the US

  • Ability to work in a global business environment with cultural diversity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, specifically with steel or copper fabrication

  • Experience with electrical distribution equipment

  • Computer Aided Design certification or degree

  • Internship or co-op experience in mechanical design or manufacturing

  • Knowledge of ANSI Air Insulated Switchgear

  • Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, IEEE standards
