AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network accessible by standard smartphones. Named SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network aims to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds globally — on land, at sea, and in flight.

Summary:

AST is seeking an Engineer to assist in developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods and processes. The goal is to sustain current product manufacturing and facilitate the introduction of new products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess new product concepts and designs for manufacturability; provide assessments and recommendations to R&D/Product Engineering.
  • Develop manufacturing methods and processes ensuring safety, quality standards, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Conduct proof of principle or proof of concept studies.
  • Design detailed processes, including layouts, tooling, fixturing, programming, testing, and documentation.
  • Continuously improve existing production methods using Six Sigma methodologies, leveraging knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot current production issues.
  • Participate or lead safety, Kaizen, and other process improvement initiatives.
  • Qualify new or modified products throughout the manufacturing process to completion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or 8 years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience levels:
  • Associate Level: 0-3 years in manufacturing.
  • Mid-Level: Minimum 3 years in manufacturing.
  • Proficient with MS Office, CAD/CAM software.
  • Understanding of tooling and fixture design, capability studies, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; experience in technical writing preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • US or Permanent Resident Card required.
  • Additional Qualifications:

    • Experience with pFMEA and Lean Manufacturing.
    • Experience in liaison or concurrent engineering environments.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar software.
    • Experience with ERP/MES/PLM systems such as Solumina, NetSuite, Fusion360.
    • Experience supporting operations with robotic equipment.
    • Proven process improvements and process design experience, utilizing Six Sigma principles.
    • Black Belt Six Sigma (DMAIC) certification preferred.
