Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden Shop is seeking an Associate Manager, Retail Operations to strengthen the operational foundation across deliveries, stockroom, POS, and cross-channel inventory.

Under the Director of Retail, you will lead a small team, optimize processes, monitor KPIs, and ensure accurate reporting for both in-store and online sales, while supporting future growth.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of retail experience with 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience in retail operations, inventory management and reporting.
• Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience coaching and developing team members.
• Proficiency with POS systems (Shopify preferred) and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of eCommerce/Shopify is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Streamline day-to-day operational logistics including deliveries and cross-channel inventory flow.
• Ensure inventory-system accuracy and reporting for in-store and online locations.
• Analyze inventory, storage utilization, and sales data to manage stock levels.

Position Summary

The Associate Manager, Retail Operations supports and helps strengthen the operational foundation of the NYBG Shop: the logistics, inventory, systems, and reporting that keep the business running smoothly and support future growth. Working under the direction of the Director of Retail, the role helps coordinate deliveries, stockroom and warehouse flow, POS functionality, and cross-channel inventory accuracy, while maintaining clear processes and reference materials for the team.

The Associate Manager works alongside other Associate Managers leading Merchandising and Customer Experience.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Streamline day-to-day operational logistics — deliveries, stockroom organization, work orders, and cross-channel inventory flow — serving as warehouse liaison in partnership with the retail team.
• Ensure inventory-system accuracy and reporting across in-store and online locations, including order fulfillment and warehouse transfers.
• Analyze inventory, storage utilization, and sales data to maintain appropriate stock levels and prevent shrinkage, presenting findings in a clear, decision-ready format.
• With the support and oversight of the Director, monitor KPIs across all sales channels and provide performance insights that inform weekly and seasonal operations.
• Support POS system functionality end-to-end — serving as the Shop's primary point person for POS issues, processing damages, and creating and managing discount and promotional codes.
• Create and maintain the Shop's standard operating procedures, process guides, and reference documents.
• Coach and develop team members supporting fulfillment and cross-channel operations.
• Partner with fellow Associate Managers and other Garden departments on cross-functional projects.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of retail experience, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory, lead, or management role.
• Demonstrated experience in retail operations, inventory management, and reporting.
• Proven ability to lead a team and manage a retail floor in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated experience coaching, training, and developing team members.
• Proficiency with POS systems (Shopify preferred) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Resourcefulness in research, data collection, and analysis, with the ability to distill complex information into actionable recommendations.
• Working knowledge of eCommerce/Shopify operations preferred; this is a secondary skill area, not the primary focus of the role.
• Knowledge of or genuine enthusiasm for horticultural and botanical products is a plus; deep horticultural expertise is not required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Regular on-site, on-floor presence is required. The role includes periodic outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions, assisting with and unloading stock deliveries, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Baseline Work Schedule

35 hours/week; Wednesday–Sunday, rotating between 9am–5pm and 11am–7pm shifts; occasional evenings and/or holidays required based on NYBG's events and programming schedule.

Salary: $57,000
