Job summary

Barrday is seeking an Associate Machine Operator in Charlotte, NC to safely operate Uni-Directional textile machines and meet production targets. You will work in a self-directed team with some supervision, handling materials, data entry, and quality checks along the way.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years in manufacturing, with strong attention to detail, safety, and teamwork. Overtime may be required in a manufacturing environment, with comprehensive benefits provided.

Responsibilities

  • Operate UD textile machines safely and efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Stage materials, barcode, label, and maintain accurate inventories during runs.
  • Adjust equipment settings per customer/product requirements.
  • Follow test procedures and Barrday control documents to ensure quality.
  • Plan and lay out work to meet production and schedule requirements.
  • Operate hoist and pallet jack; perform daily inspections.
  • Input production data into ERP/MS Office and monitor quality.
  • Visually inspect fabric to ensure conformance to specs.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues and escalate as needed.
  • Raise NCRs for non-conforming materials and coordinate with Quality/Engineering.
  • Package and label finished products for shipping; maintain 5S lean practices.
  • Provide production and changeover reports to shift Supervisors.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and comply with safety requirements.

Summary:

This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating Uni-Directional (UD) textile machines to consistently meet quality and production targets. Individuals in this role will work as part of a self-directed team with some supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the startup, operation, clean up, and shut down of UD machines and other equipment and processes in accordance with standard operating procedures and in manner that keeps pace with demand and meets acceptable production and quality targets.
  • Stages material through barcoding, labels, and maintains accurate inventories during runs.
  • Customizes basic equipment settings following customer and/or product requirements.
  • Follows precise test procedures based on specification and customer requirements as outlined in the Barrday control document.
  • Plans and lays out work to meet production and schedule requirements.
  • Operates hoist and pallet jack and maintains daily inspections.
  • Uses technology (ERP system/MS Office) to determine material and product specifications and enter production and quality data during and upon completion of production runs.
  • Visually inspects product as it runs to ensure fabric produced meets all specifications.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots problems with equipment/ devices pulling in support as needed.
  • Raises NCR’s for non-conforming materials and works with Quality / Engineering to identify and implement resolutions.
  • Packages, labels and places finished products on skids, bands etc. ready for shipping.
  • Provides production, progress, or changeover reports to shift supervisors.
  • Ensures 5S and lean philosophies are practiced and sustained in daily activities.
  • Keeps equipment and work areas clean, maintained and in excellent condition for next shift.
  • Works in manner promoting a safe environment and deals with unsafe issues immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned, within the department and other areas of the plant.

Key Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing production environment and / or working with manufactures.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Precise manual dexterity is required.
  • Ability to speak and read instructions competently in English.
  • Basic math skills particularly as related to measurement.
  • Dependable, effective team player willing to cross train and take on new duties and desire to grow within the company.
  • Excellent attention to detail and safety.
  • Must commit to the assigned work schedule and work overtime as required.
  • Moving, bending, pushing and lifting capability up to 40 lbs.
  • Basic knowledge and comfortable using computers and system to input data.
  • Must adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment.
