We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role offers hands-on experience with Linux and open source technologies, working with a talented team at Canonical. You will handle technical support cases across cloud, desktop, and IoT, from triage to resolution, either independently or with senior engineers. This is a remote, globally accessible role.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical support for employees from your home office.
• Managing new support cases via phone, email, and web.
• Communicating effectively with internal customers and updating them on case status.
• Ensuring support cases meet SLA standards and achieve high customer satisfaction.
• Creating and maintaining knowledge base articles.
• Drafting technical notices for internal and external audiences.
• Prioritizing tasks to address urgent issues.
• Continuously learning about evolving products and services.
• Understanding Ubuntu development timelines to set accurate customer expectations.
• Maintaining regular communication with team members.
• Identifying opportunities to improve service quality.
• Participating in weekend rotation support shifts.

Qualifications

• Strong academic record from high school and university.
• Degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, MIS, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Confidence in speaking up, giving feedback, and sharing ideas.
• Proven ability to exceed expectations and deliver results.
• Experience troubleshooting Linux systems (logs, configuration edits).
• Knowledge or experience in at least two of the following: Linux server administration, programming fundamentals, networking, virtualization/cloud computing.
• Quick learner, adaptable, and able to handle customer-facing pressure.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Respectful and effective in multicultural environments.
• Result-driven with personal accountability.
• Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with virtualization platforms like KVM, VirtualBox, VMWare.
• Experience with open-source desktop technologies.
• Active contributions to open-source projects or forums.
