We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role offers an opportunity for a hands-on engineer eager to learn, passionate about Linux and open source technologies, to work with industry experts at Canonical.

Our support team handles complex technical problems, including cloud environments, desktop and server issues, Linux kernel crashes, OS configuration, and root cause analysis, providing expert support and customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for delivering excellent technical support across the full stack—cloud, desktop, and IoT—owning your cases from problem qualification to resolution, and collaborating with colleagues or senior engineers as needed. This is a remote role.

Location: This is a globally remote role.

The role entails
  • Providing technical support from your home office for employees.
  • Owning new cases via phone, email, and web.
  • Acting as an internal customer advocate, ensuring timely updates.
  • Handling support cases according to SLA and ensuring high customer satisfaction.
  • Creating and maintaining knowledge base articles.
  • Drafting technical notices for communication.
  • Prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Continuously learning about our products and services.
  • Understanding Ubuntu development to set correct customer expectations.
  • Maintaining communication with the team, locally and remotely.
  • Suggesting improvements to service quality.
  • Participating in weekend rotation support.
What we are looking for in you
  • Strong academic record from high school and university.
  • Degree in a technical field or a compelling alternative narrative (preferably Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.).
  • Confidence in communication, feedback exchange, and idea sharing.
  • Proven track record of exceeding expectations.
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting (logs, configuration edits).
  • Knowledge or experience in at least two of:
    • Linux server administration
    • Programming fundamentals (bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++, Go)
    • Networking concepts
    • Virtualization/Cloud computing
  • Quick learner, adaptable, able to handle customer-facing pressure.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Respectful of diversity, polite, and effective in multicultural environments.
  • Results-driven with personal commitment.
  • Willing to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks.

  • Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, VirtualBox, VMWare).
  • Experience with open-source desktop technologies.
  • Active contribution to open-source projects or forums.
