We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role offers hands-on experience with Linux and open source technologies, working with industry-leading professionals at Canonical.

You will handle complex technical problems, from cloud environments to Linux kernel crashes, providing expert support across cloud, desktop, and IoT. You will own cases from start to resolution, collaborating with colleagues as needed. This is a remote, global role.

Location:

This is a globally remote role.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing technical support from your home office.
• Managing new cases via phone, email, and web.
• Communicating effectively with internal customers and keeping them updated.
• Handling support cases according to SLA with high customer satisfaction.
• Creating and maintaining knowledge base articles.
• Drafting technical notices for communication.
• Prioritizing tasks and continuously learning about evolving products.
• Understanding Ubuntu development to set accurate customer expectations.
• Maintaining team communication and suggesting service improvements.
• Participating in weekend rotation shifts.

Qualifications:

• Strong academic record from high school and university.
• Degree in a technical field or relevant experience; preferred majors include Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering.
• Confidence in speaking up, providing feedback, and sharing ideas.
• Experience with Linux troubleshooting.
• Knowledge or experience in at least two of the following: Linux server administration, programming fundamentals, networking, virtualization/cloud computing.
• Quick learner, adaptable, and able to handle customer-facing pressure.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Respect for diversity and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
• Result-oriented with a drive to meet commitments.
• Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks.

Nice-to-have skills:

• Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, VirtualBox, VMWare).
• Experience with open-source desktop technologies.
• Active contribution to open-source projects.
