Open to candidates who are permanent or have filed for the Open-Competitive ASSOCIATE LABORATORY MICROBIOLOGIST Exam No. 4016 within the filing period from December 7, 2023, to December 9, 2024, or the PROMOTION TO ASSOCIATE LABORATORY MICROBIOLOGIST Exam No. 4513 within the same period.

The NYC DOHMH Public Health Laboratory seeks a qualified Associate Laboratory Microbiologist I to:

  • Assist with routine laboratory operations and administrative tasks.
  • Perform high and moderate complexity testing on clinical and environmental specimens using manual, automated methods, and specialized instrumentation within BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs.
  • Generate reports, maintain records, and perform related testing tasks.
  • Cross-train across various methods and techniques to support routine and surge testing needs.
  • Oversee administrative functions, utilize Laboratory Information Systems for data management, and maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and biosafety programs.

Candidates should bring necessary documentation to interviews, including proof of identity, education, address, and professional licenses as applicable. Post-interview, original documents and Social Security cards are required for onboarding.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related sciences with one year of laboratory experience, or equivalent credits and experience as detailed in the posting. Preferred skills include experience in diagnostic testing and eligibility for a NYS Clinical Technologist license. NYC residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
