Job description

The Associate Investigator will work with the Agronomy Lead to provide agronomic support to all groups within the Woodland, CA research station. The Associate Investigator will be responsible for various tasks while working across functions to achieve successful research trials from planting, through harvest and quality data in all crops.

What You'll Do:

  1. Drive field geospatial planting operations to execute precision planting of numerous agronomic field research trials throughout the cropping season.
  2. Drive field geospatial precision harvesting and data collection operations of numerous agronomic field research trials throughout the cropping season.
  3. Have a general understanding/ability to learn and become proficient in the application/use of GPS/GIS systems which are instrumental for precision planting, harvesting operations and data collection integrity.
  4. Have a general understanding/ability to learn in the application/use of experimental design, applied agricultural biotechnology, data analysis, and have an open mindset for learning beyond current experiences and knowledge.
  5. QC Data and help with improving the quality of data collected through agronomic improvements.
  6. Personally operate all types of farm equipment and minimize down time by correcting issues quickly and staying current with preventive maintenance.
  7. Work with Agronomy Lead to set and execute on priorities for the agronomy team for all crops on site.
  8. Collaborate with team members to maintain contacts between Station Ops lead, Agronomy Lead, scientists, agronomists, and contracted staff to ensure research goals are met to expectations.
  9. Manage greenhouse operations and climate controls.
  10. Participate as an integrated member of the Woodland, CA Team, in regional safety committees and audits, administer center-wide safety programs, and comply with all center and company policies.
  11. Safely handle and apply various types of agricultural pesticides.
  12. Be prepared for periods of extended work hours and overnight travel during planting and harvest.
  13. Identify improvements in procedures and protocols within allotted time constraints.
  14. Identify appropriate and efficient uses of station research project resources.
  15. Direct logistics of all agronomic equipment and employees to complete research tasks in a timely manner.
  16. Troubleshoot agricultural equipment issues.
  17. Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments that reflect Company Policies.
  18. Decide priority of work activities to meet assigned deadlines, balancing all assigned projects.
  19. Other duties and cross-training in other aspects of row crop agriculture, agricultural research, station and facility support and maintenance as needed.

What Skills You Need:

  1. High school diploma with 5+ years experience OR bachelor's degree with 3 years of experience.
  2. Experience with agricultural equipment (tractors, planters, combines) and on-farm usage.
  3. Familiarity with GPS/GIS geospatial equipment used in the agricultural industry.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and computer skills/experience.
  5. Excellent personal interaction skills and ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of people.
  6. Must be capable of doing physical lifting (up to 50lbs).
  7. Must have a clean driving record.

The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 to $70,000.00.
This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
