Job summary

University of California, Merced invites applications for Associate Instructor positions in the School of Engineering for AY 2026-2027. Under supervision of a faculty mentor, the Associate Instructor will lead instruction of a course, with duties including grading, leading discussion sections when appropriate and holding office hours.

Appointments are up to one semester and 25%–50% time; requires TA experience and a Master’s degree in the subject area.

Qualifications

Position title:Associate Instructor Salary range:See Table 19 for the salary range for this position. Salary is normally based on an annual full-time salary at Salary Point 6 of $85,898; see Table 19 for the full range of salary points. Associate Instructors will not be appointed for more than 50% time during the Fall & Spring semesters. Percent time:25% - 50% Anticipated start:Fall 2026 - August 1, 2026
Spring 2027 - January 1, 2027 Position duration:Duration may be up to one semester.

Position description

The School of Engineering anticipates hiring Associate Instructors for lower- and upper-division courses for Academic Year 2026-2027 in the following disciplines:

Civil and Environmental Engineering
Engineering Fundamentals (courses may include the following: Introduction to Materials, Statics and Dynamics, Circuit Theory, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Strength of Materials, Spatial Analysis, Information Systems, etc.)

Under supervision of a faculty mentor, the Associate Instructor will be responsible for leading instruction of a course. Additional duties may include grading, leading discussion sections when appropriate and holding office hours.

The University of California Associate Instructors are represented by the UAW-AFL-CIO.
